Resumo

A partir do popular e do satírico, busca-se a definição do ethos popular em Pompéia. Parte-se de uma análise da cultura popular na sociedade antiga, ressaltando-se a sátira e a caricatura como formas expressivas especificamente populares. O simbolismo estilístico presente no grafismo parietal pompeiano é estudado em contraposiçáo às expressões eruditas (carmina figurata). Caracteriza-se o sistema sócio-semiótico das caricaturas pompeianas chegando-se à especificidade do ethos popular.
